Devon King Admitted to BAR

DEVON Anthony King, who was admitted to the Bar on Friday by Acting Chief Justice Ian Chang, said that while his formal education has come to a temporary halt he knows that learning the law never end.

“Much hard work lies ahead”, he said, and added “but I am up to the challenge in order to justly serve the court, clients and my country and to develop my career and skill as a legal practitioner.

Petition for admission to the Bar by the 23-year old Attorney-at-Law, was presented by lawyer, Mr. Glenn Hanoman who described Mr. King as a young lawyer with a bright future who would be a great asset and addition to the profession.

The Acting Chief Justice admitted the young lawyer to practice and wished him success at the Bar.

Mr. King is the son of Lindon King and Monica King of 48 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

He attended the Sacred Heart Primary, the St. Stanislaus College, 1996-2003, University of Guyana, 2003-2006, and Hugh Wooding Law School (Trinidad) 2006– 2008.

In his achievements, he was the best graduating student–CXC – 2001 for St. Stanislaus College; Best Cape Unit one student – St. Stanislaus College, 2002; Regional Best Performer CAPE Unit Two–2003; Prime Minister’s Award – for Best National Performer at Cape Unit Two – 2003; Bachelor of Laws – UG – 2006; Listed on the Principals Honors Roll, Hugh Wooding Law School – 2008.

Mr. Hanoman told the Chief Justice that Mr. King who served his internship with the law firm of Hanoman & Associates was very instrumental in the success of many cases conducted by Mr. Hanoman during his In-Service Training in the summer of 2007.

He was very analytical, and able to apply his academics well to deal with the practical part of the profession and solve live issues.

In response, Attorney-at-Law Devon Anthony King, said that it had always been a paramount aspiration of his to practice law in the courts of his homeland. He added, “After years of hard work, sacrifice, prayers, countless examinations, assignments and assessments and endless love and support from my family, relatives and friends, I am indeed honored and overjoyed to be a part of what many, including myself, would call the most noble and honorable of professions.”
